From the Desk of Ryan “Rider” Corrigan, COL, USAF (Retired)
Executive Director, Craig Field Airport & Industrial Park
Dear Friends and Neighbors of Selma and the Black Belt,
As we move through 2026, I am incredibly excited to share some tremendous news about
the bright future taking shape right here at Craig Field Airport & Industrial Park. This year
marks a pivotal moment for our airport and our entire region — one that combines
celebration, education, and major infrastructure investment to unlock real economic
growth for Selma and surrounding communities.
First, Aviation Day on Thursday, April 30, 2026. This event is a collaborative effort between
Craig Field Airport & Industrial Park and Wallace Community College, designed specifically
to showcase the outstanding aviation and aerospace opportunities available right here in
our local community.
Aviation Day will be a steppingstone to planned future events in 2027 and 2028 that will
feature guided airport tours, interactive exhibits, flight demonstrations, food trucks, and
live entertainment. More importantly, it will highlight the real pathways to well-paying
careers that residents can pursue immediately. Through our partnership with Wallace
Community College, attendees will learn about programs offering Pilot Certification, Air
Traffic Control Certification, and A&P (Aircraft & Powerplant) Mechanic Certifications.
These are not distant dreams — they are accessible, high-demand professions in the
growing aerospace sector that can provide stable, rewarding careers for our families and
young people right here at home.
We’re also proud to host an outstanding lineup of aviation participants, including a
spectacular 17-aircraft formation team, a P-51 Mustang reminiscent of the legendary
fighters flown by the Tuskegee Airmen in World War II, performances by World Aerobatic
Champion Greg Koontz, two aircraft from Propel Aviation and AeroPro Flight School, U.S.
Department of Defense aircraft such as the PC-12 and T-6, and impressive Alabama Law
Enforcement drone and helicopter exhibits.
Beyond the excitement of Aviation Day, 2026 brings something even more foundational for
our long-term success: a major runway resurfacing project. This critical investment,
combined with the recent taxiway rehabilitation projects we’ve already completed,
represents a monumental step forward. These infrastructure upgrades will modernize our airfield, enhance safety and capacity, and position Craig Field to attract new aviation-
related businesses, maintenance operations, and economic development opportunities.
Our runway has long been one of the longest and most capable in the state — a true asset
for Selma. By resurfacing it and strengthening our taxiways, we are removing limitations
and opening the door for heavier aircraft, expanded operations, and new industry partners.
This is more than just pavement work; it is a strategic investment in jobs, growth, and
opportunity for our entire region.
As a retired Air Force Colonel and an F-16 Fighter Pilot, I’ve spent my career operating from
some of the finest airfields in the world. I can tell you with confidence that the
improvements underway at Craig Field are game-changing. They reflect our commitment to
excellence and our belief that Selma’s best days are still ahead.
Whether you’re a student exploring career options, a business leader looking for a strategic
location, or a resident who simply loves the sound of freedom in the skies, this is an
exciting time to be part of the Craig Field community.
The sky is not the limit — it’s just the beginning.
